Watersports Clubs in London

You don’t have to wait until you are on holiday to learn to sail, row or kayak. The River Thames has played such an important part in the life of London over the centuries and now offers a huge number of leisure opportunities as well. Watersports can be a great family activity at weekends but also great fun for children during school holidays – you don’t need to be a lithe, long legged athlete to be a good sailor!

There are so many clubs to choose from but many offer very reasonably priced courses and membership.

Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre is a charitable trust opened in 1989: offering sailing, rowing, canoeing, power boating, dragon boating. Based at Millwall Dock (25 acres of sheltered water) and on the River Thames. Annual family membership is £200 but an open session for non-members is only £10.
Lots of children’s events and courses.

Surrey Docks Watersports Centre in Rotherhithe: offers sailing, kayaking, rowing, canoeing, power boating and raft building.

Canalside Activity Centre in West London, for 9-19 year olds, offering canoeing, kayaking, trips away and many holiday activities.

Barn Elms Boathouse in Barnes is part of a 52 acre riverside side. The Boathouse offers rowing and skulling.

The River Thames Guide gives a very complete listing of all the clubs based along its many miles.
