Sleepovers at London Attractions

Don't just plan a daytime visit, how about staying over as well!
There are many wonderful attractions in London where you can sleepover. Children always need to be accompanied but what an experience! You will need to book well ahead as all of the sleepovers are very popular but this could be a great treat for a birthday party or perhaps something your child's godparent or aunt of uncle could take them to for a special bonding time.

Here are just a few ideas; if you know of others please let us know at london@whatson4kids.com

HMS Belfast Ship

Children from 8 years old sleep in a real sailor's bunk, complete with lockers, showers and separate cabins for the accompanying adults. The original 1950's mess decks provide a fantastic setting for groups of children aged 8 upwards, to experience a day and night in the life of a sailor. Groups of up to 50 children can sleepover for up to 3 nights. There are separate cabins for up to 6 adults and the cost is £25 per person including breakfast.

Kew Gardens

The aim of the sleepovers is to give children aged between 8 and 11 a unique unforgettable educational experience in the stimulating surroundings of Kew Gardens. Kew is a magical place at night, 300 acres of trees, grasslands and wild places to explore. The call of owls and foxes shatter the silence, bats swoop overhead while badgers hunt for worms. In the great Glasshouses, tropical jungles steam through the night. You may see the Giant Water lily pollinated and discover the scents of many night blooming flowers. Kew's world renowned collections are a unique activity base. Expert guides bring the night to life - encouraging children to develop their interest in the life of plants and animals. Weather permitting, we will spend most of the evening outdoors, exploring and learning through hands-on activities and environmental games. The programme may include scavenger hunts, mini-beast talks or wildlife walks, depending on the time of year. £40 per person. The next dates are as follows: 12th May, 17th June, 8th July and 28th October 2006

Science Museum

With hands on workshops and access to the galleries a night at the Science Museum would be a thrill for any child. The sleepovers are available to children between 8-11 years in groups of between 5-9 children with one adult. £30 per person including breakfast. The dates for autumn 2006 will be published in June 2006 so signup now for information.

British Museum

Sleep amongst the mummies! This may seem a little creepy but if you huddle together and have plenty of midnight snacks, it should be fun. Check. A £20 per year subscription gives your child free entry to all exhibitions, the Young Friends magazine and access to special events such as the sleepovers. Call 0207 3238195 for further details.

Golden Hinde

A unique learning opportunity for children aged between 6 and 12 years to make an imaginary voyage with Sir Francis Drake aboard this majestic old ship. Children are provided with period costumes and woollen blankets so in order to be a little more comfortable than those sailors of old, a sleeping bag and pillow would be a good idea! The Overnight stay costs £34 and the minimum group size is 20 children. No charge is made for accompanying adults; however they must participate fully in the activities as 'tall sailors'.
