Day Trips from London

Even though London has so much on offer, just occasionally you may feel the need to escape for a day - here are some suggestions for days out.

Epping Forest

Liverpool Street Station to Chingford - Journey time: 30 - 40 minutes
Chingford station is the nearest station (half a mile) to Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge which was originally built for King Henry VIII in 1543. Enjoy the forest walks or find out about all the other activities on offer.

Canterbury

Victoria, London Bridge or Charing Cross to Canterbury - Journey time: 1 hour 30 minutes
One of our most cities - visit Canterbury Cathedral, Canterbury Castle, the Medieval Town Walls and Westgate Towers.

Brighton

Victoria, London Bridge to Brighton - Journey time 1 hour
From the pier to the promenade to The Lanes to The Downs - you won't be stick for something to do in Brighton whatever the weather.

Windsor Castle

Paddington to Windsor via Slough - Journey time approx 35 mins
A "proper" castle with soldiers, turrets and big iron gates. Queen May's dolls house is a treat for all little girls. Don't forget that Legoland is just up the road.

Bath

Paddington to Bath - Journey time 1 hour 20 mins
As well as lots of beautiful buildings, the Roman Baths are finally open after a major revamp and are now open as a chi chi spa.

Blenheim Palace

Paddington to Woodstock - journey time approx 1 hour 20 mins
A "proper" palace - HUGE and very impressive. Blenheim Palace is a Baroque masterpiece with a Great Hall, Library, State rooms and Clock Tower. All these rooms are open to the public and have magnificent painted ceilings and paintings. The Palace also has splendid gardens that have been matured over hundreds of years as well as a Butterfly House, Herb and Lavender Garden and a Train that offer's free rides.

Oxford

Paddington to Oxford - Journey time 1 hour
Over 800 years of university history mean that Oxford is full of ancient college buildings and the vibrancy of a bustling student town. The Pitt Rivers Museum (free) has an amazing collection of artefacts from around the world including shrunken heads! After all the culture, take a punt down the river.

Chessington World of Adventures

Waterloo to Chessington
Home to the world's first ever suspended and swinging roller coaster The Vampire ride. Chessington also has its own zoo with Europe's biggest gorilla family and animal shows from sea lion's, penguins and birds.

Seaside trips

Whitstable - Victoria to Whitstable. Pebbly beach and great seafood.
Herne Bay - Victoria to Herne Bay. The Herne Bay Festival runs from August 19-27, with street performers, activities for children, workshops, live music and fireworks.
Deal - Charing Cross to Deal. Sandy beach, pretty town and safe swimming
Southend-on-Sea - Liverpool Street to Southend. Sandy beach and the longest pier in the world
West Wittering - Victoria to Chichester. Huge beach with lots of watersports on offer.
