The London International Gallery of Children's Art

The London International Gallery of Children's Art (LIGCA) is devoted to encouraging the creativity of children and to promoting international understanding through cultural exchange. Our hope is to open the eyes of visitors to the integrity and power of children's art.

The Gallery is open from 4-6pm Tue-Thurs, 12-6pm Fri-Sun, closed Mon. Visiting the Gallery is free, but donations are welcome. Art materials are always available to create your own work of art in response the exhibition.

About the LIGCA

The London International Gallery of Children's Art (LIGCA) was founded in 1993 at Southbank International School in Hampstead. In 1999 we moved to our present space, donated by the O2 Centre. Glenda Jackson, MP for Hampstead and Highgate, officially opened our new gallery.

The LIGCA hosts exhibitions of children's art from every corner of the world including artwork by local children. We run a schools education programme relating to these exhibitions, including exhibition tours, workshops in the gallery and outreach work. Out of school hours, we offer an exciting range of art workshops and courses catering for 2-12 year olds.

Saturday Art Classes

Bodies and Forms, Artist Haleh Jamali
10:30 - 12:00
12th, 19th and 26th May
A journey in three sessions through shapes, materials, subjects, models and imagination. The young artists will be encouraged to participate and learn by interacting and creating forms, expressing themselves fully whilst getting to know important artistic concepts. This multi-directional course will give the children plenty to do, learn and take home.

Colour Theory, Artist Konstantina Kapanidou
10:30 - 12:00
2nd, 9th and 16th June
Enter the fascinating world of colour! On the surface, choice of colour and the actual shades used in art may seem to be without any particular logic. These practical workshops will introduce key concepts and skills to the children including primary colours and their relationship with secondary colours and the influence of shade and tone. Every child will experiment with colour and, over the three sessions, will develop an understanding of this absorbing subject.

The Saturday art courses are suitable for children aged between 5 and 12. Each course costs £30 per child (£10 per session). It is possible to book the workshops (sessions) separately, but it is advisable to attend all three workshops to reach each series' goal - training specific art skills and understanding the way the skills fit together. These courses will be limited by attendance from 7 to a maximum of 12 children. Please make your booking well in advance via e-mail at workshops@ligca.org, providing your name, your child's name and age, address and contact number/e-mail address. This enables us to contact you and confirm your attendance. Please do not forget to send a cheque payable to the London International Gallery of Children's Art, 255 Finchley Road, London NW3 6LU. Alternatively, you can come to the Gallery and book the course by paying either in cash or cheque. The volunteer on duty will sign you in for the course.
