Do it 4 Real Summer CampMy Review of a 'Water sports Plus' Camp by Jessie Kenneth age 14 This summer I went on a 'Do it 4 Real' week with my friend, Kate. We decided to go for the 'Water sports Plus' course as it sounded fun and we both knew we liked that sort of thing. On my way I felt a little nervous as, although I had done many things similar to it before, I had never been on a residential camp with so many people I didn't know. On arrival we were met by some very smiley councillors and shown to our bunk which was small but cosy! Kate and I were some of the first to arrive, as we came by car, so we were there when the coaches arrived a bit later on. We decided to just be brave and introduce ourselves to people and after that everything was fine! We did two main activities a day, most of them were water activities that we did on the lake and river which were conveniently just a couple of minutes walk away but we did do a few land based activities as well. I enjoyed everything and tried some new things out such as wind surfing and fencing. Some of the other activities we did were: sailing, kayaking, canoeing, raft building, archery, multi sports and initiative exercises. There were people from all over the place but I got on well with everyone and every night we talked for ages so by the end of the week it felt like I had known some people far longer than just a week. There were also so many different accents so every now and then I would find myself saying something in a Birmingham accent or a London accent, it was quite funny! All the councillors were so friendly and, because they joined in on all of the activities, they felt like one of us. By the end of the week I had made some great friends and was really sad to say good bye, I have everyone's contact details so I can stay in touch and we may even see each other again next year... well I hope so! I really recommend the Do it 4 Real camps, they really are fun and, according to mum, a bargain too! |
