The London Wetland CentreBy Aaron Jones (age 8) with Rachel (age 6) and mum! On Tuesday we visited the London Wetland Centre in Barnes. We started by making dragonflies using sticks and materials which started in the courtyard just as we arrived. Then we moved onto the pond dipping. We saw a frog sitting in the reeds and fished out several water snails, two sticklebacks and a dragonfly larvae skin along with other things. Before lunch we went on the "Whose Poo?" trail in the World Wetlands area. We raced to see who could find the "Whose Poo" boards first and then tried to guess the answer. I can remember seeing poo from a fox, an otter, a mouse, a caterpillar, a water vole and a moorhen. While we were in the World Wetlands area we saw lots of ducklings and goslings which were really cute. My favourite bird of the day was the Ruddy Duck which has an amazing bright blue bill. As it was such a hot day the Explore Area was great. It has a cloud which randomly rains on you - it really cooled us down. Next we started the duck race where you have to spray rubber ducks along a water course but we never finished it because there were some babies sitting in the way! So we moved on to explore the water vole burrows and cross the pretend river using bridges and rope swings. Our favourite thing here was cableway which was awesome. We finished with the mini beast safari before finally deciding we were too hot and tired to see anything else. On the way out we watched the swans and cygnets for a while before we left. |
